Thank you for your continued patience as we work to replace and upgrade critical components of our aging wastewater infrastructure. This essential work has temporarily impacted travel on Water Street, Kent Street, and East Grand River Avenue.
Water Street is expected to reopen by the end of the day on Friday, June 20. Following this, our team will focus on connecting the new wastewater infrastructure to an existing manhole structure at the intersection of East Grand River Avenue and Kent Street. Originally installed in 1929, this structure is located at a key intersection and presents one of the most complex elements of the project. The current lane shift on East Grand River Avenue is expected to remain in place through mid-July.
Work also continues on the Community Plaza at 103 East Grand River Avenue, with an anticipated opening by the end of August.
The wastewater infrastructure being replaced—including sections beneath Grand River Avenue and the Looking Glass River—dates back to the 1940s and 1970s. Upgrading this system is vital to protecting public health, preserving our environment, and maintaining high service standards for our community.
We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding throughout this process. For questions or additional information, please contact my office at 517-647-2931.
