Concussion Policy

The City of Portland and Portland Parks & Recreation consider safety to be of the utmost importance when providing athletic programs for the community. In accordance with MCL 333.9155 and MCL 333.9156, coaches, parents, and athletes are made aware and informed of signs of a concussion and how to act accordingly should such an occurrence arise.

  1. For Coaches
  2. For Parents/Participants

As a youth sports coach, your actions create the culture for safety and can help lower an athlete's chance of getting a concussion or other serious injury. It's important to note that aggressive and/or unsportsmanlike behavior among athletes can increase their chances of getting a concussion or other serious injury.

Please see below for information to help youth coaches protect athletes form concussion or other serious brain injury, and to help coaches know what to do if a concussion occurs.
